The cavernous tunnel of an airplane cargo hold opens only to receive and disgorge the bodies of America’s war dead.  Put another way, light as well as darkness equals death rather than life.  It is a message of anguish and despair, of hopelessness.  Our position is beyond solution or repair, irremediable.

If no one will rescue us from this nightmare of war, can we not rescue ourselves and thereby save our country?
